Ivy is a reoccurring character in Hooky. Introduced as a minor character, being one of Monica’s ladies-in-waiting and best friends, she later becomes a member of the supporting cast starting in episode 72.

Appearance[]

Ivy is a teenage girl with fair skin, slender build, and is slightly shorter than most of her peers. She has short, fluffy, light brown hair with straight bangs, and she typically wears a light blue bow either in the back or side of her hair. She also has dark brown eyes. Her clothing is typically in some shade of blue, either a pastel or teal in color. Her hair bow is typically blue as well. In her early appearances she was seen wearing large dresses suit for a lady of nobility, though later on she is seen wear more casual clothing, such as pants.

While on the run with Dani and Dorian, she disguises herself as a witch by wearing all black, casual clothing. She refuses to wear a witch’s hat, however.

After the time skip, Ivy wears a variety of clothing matching the style of Amir and Aisha’s kingdom. She wears light blue tops with golden, metallic accents, matching blue bloomers, and a teal shawl around her waist and shoulder. She also wears a teal headdress. Later in the story, when going to Pendragon's House to help Dani recover her memories, she wears more western-style clothing like she did during her youth.

Personality[]

Ivy is depicted as pessimistic and is reluctant to join the other characters on their adventures, preferring instead to stay indoors with Amir. She is also depicted as rather lazy and rude, unlike her foil, Anne.

History[]

Ivy is a member of the nobility in William’s Kingdom, as she is Will’s cousin[1] ; though it’s never stated which side of his family she belongs to. She more than likely met Monica, William, Anne, Amir, and Aisha at a young age. She was likely appointed as Monica’ lady-in-waiting by the King, possibly at Monica’s request, a couple of years before the story begins. She likely has a permanent residence in Monica's Castle.

Story[]

Ivy’s first appearance is in Episode 10, when she is seen attempting to comfort Princess Monica after Prince William was kidnapped, alongside Anne. She offers suggestions on how to cheer Monica up, such as going shopping, finding a new fiancé, or going to a party. After Monica declares she will go off to find Will, Ivy and Anne leaves, not wanting to take part, though offering their luck.

Ivy isn’t seen again until Episode 59, during the ball at Monica's Castle. She and Anne are seen flirting with Mark, and asking if he would like to dance with them. After Dani points out that Mark’s dancing partner is Monica, the girls run and embrace her. Ivy is seen having a good time at the ball with the group, catching up on the latest gossip with Monica. When the witch army attacks the palace, Anne is put in danger when part of the balcony collapses beneath her, and she is left clinging to Ivy for safety. Monica ends up saving Anne with her broom flying. Ivy hides along with Anne, Amir, Monica and Dorian, and watches in horror as Damien transforms the king into a toad, crowning himself King of the Witches. As they run and hide on a balcony, Damien hides them from the witch army, she rides on a gigantic Carlo away from the castle, in search for Dani, Nico, and Mark. They regroup with their friends, but realize the depth of the situation, becoming wanted criminals by Damien’s army and having to flee from the kingdom.

Months pass, with Ivy living in hiding with Monica, Anne, Amir, Dani, Dorian, Nico, Mark, Barry, and Noah at Mark's cabin. Despite not being a fan of the circumstances, she spends her time hanging out with Anne, continuing their duty of caring for Monica. When Nico discovers that Will is being held captive somewhere in Amir’s kingdom through his clairvoyance, she is not convinced of his abilities, but she joins the group (minus Barry and Noah) to go out to save him.

While riding with the group to Amir’s kingdom, an incident where they were nearly captured leads to Monica being separated from them. Ivy initially blames Nico for sending them on a wild goose chase and potentially putting them in more danger.

Skills and Abilities[]

Anne is a non-magical human, and is not shown preforming any magic during the series. As a lady-in-waiting, she was likely taught how to be proper, and how to assist Monica with her day-to-day needs, such as with her clothing and hair, as well as emotional support.

Relationships[]

Main Characters[]

  • Monica: Ivy is one of Monica’s best friends from childhood, as well as her lady in waiting. Ivy is a loyal friend to Monica, and does what she can to support her. When William was kidnapped, she did what she could to comfort her, though she did not want to join Monica on her quest to rescue him.
  • Dani Wytte: The two aren’t exactly very close, but they do respect and care for each other. When Dani lost her memories, she went to help the group regain them. During the ceremony where Dani abdicates as Queen, Ivy is there to support her.
  • Dorian: The two aren’t exactly very close, and occasionally butt heads. She thought he was a weirdo initially, though she warms up to him overtime.
  • Damien: The two have known each other since childhood, and despite thinking he was creepy when first meeting him, the two seem to be on friendly terms. It is not known if Ivy knew Damien was a witch prior to the events at the ball, but if she did, she never showed any prejudice towards him.
  • William: Cousin and childhood friend. Ivy frequently teases him and calls him names, though they seem to be good friends. She was concerned for his safety when he was kidnapped, and while initially reluctant to join Monica to help save him, she eventually joins the group on their quest.

Supporting Characters[]

  • Anne: Ivy’s childhood best friend and fellow lady-in-waiting. Ivy acts a foil to Anne, as Ivy is more open about voicing her opinions, while Anne is more meek and sweet. Despite this, they are best of friends and are rarely seen apart. Ivy attempts to save Anne during the attack at the ball (albeit criticizing her weight while doing so), proving their loyalty to each other. When the two are separated following the king’s death, they promise they’ll see each other again.
  • Amir: Childhood friend of Ivy. Though she gets annoyed with him frequently, they seem to be good friends. As the series progresses, it is implied they might have a romantic relationship with each other. In episode 127, when Amir is tasked with watching his kingdom while Aisha is away, Ivy decides to stay with him. After the time skip, she arrives back to William’s kingdom with Amir, in full clothing reflecting his culture, implying she has adjusted to living there as well.
