Damien Wytte is a major character in Hooky. A witch and a member of the Royal Court, he is introduced as the older, estranged brother of Dani and Dorian Wytte. He is also William's best friend, butler, and love interest.

Appearance[]

Unlike his parents and younger siblings, who all have black hair and black eyes, Damien possesses white hair and light blue eyes. Another difference between him and the rest of his family is that he’s drawn with bags under his eyes.

Damien is usually seen wearing a white, short sleeved button-up blouse accompanied with a black bow tie. He wore black shorts, black shoes, and below-the-knee white socks.

During his teenage years, Damien wore a black dress top over a dark gray turtleneck shirt. Rather than shorts, he now wears gray pants and knee-high black boots. He wears a gray belt, a gray cape, and a silver locket that hangs around his neck.

Three years later at the age of 20, Damien now wears a much fancier dress top, a courtesy of being with royalty. He wears the same pants and boots as before, but without the cape and locket, and replacing his old belt with a new one. His hair is now parted in the front and is a bit shorter at the back and at the sides.

Personality[]

Damien is highly secretive, it seems, and his over-conscious demeanor can't go unnoticed. Damien can be nerved quite easily, as he is seen to be blushing or sweating due to small factors. He's aloof, however, and holds a dark personality that can only seemingly be lifted by William.

History[]

The frog incident

The frog incident

Damien was born as a witch who lived among non-magical people while hiding their true identities and powers. As a child, he used to spend his free time playing outside with some friends from a nearby town. One day, he was playing hide and seek with his friends when he accidentally turned one of them into a toad. News spread through the town that Damien’s family was made up of dangerous witches, so the townsfolk assaulted their manor and took Damien's mother to burn her at the stake, despite her being pregnant, while he and his father where locked in a cage. Even though burning a witch was long since forbidden, the king and queen supported the actions of the townsfolk, but the king from an allied kingdom stepped in and came just in time to save the woman, but not to avoid her some serious burns and the memories of a really traumatic experience.[2]

Since that day, Damien's parents have been seeking vengeance against humans, creating a depressing atmosphere in the family for him and his baby twin siblings, Daniela and Dorian.

William meets Damien

Damien and William meet in the forest

Damien further distanced himself from his parents when he witnessed his father killing the parents of one of his old friends.[3] He started to spend his time playing with magic alone in a nearby forest, but he felt extremely lonely. One day, the king's son, William, accidentally witnessed him doing a magic trick in the forest. Luckily, he believed Damien was a fairy rather than a witch, so he constantly came back there to play with him. The two eventually became good friends and met everyday until William suddenly left, leaving Damien alone once again.[4]

Sometime later, Damien told his parents he wanted to go to school. They complied with his request but he soon quit after realizing that the teachers taught students that non-magical people were dangerous. While he was coming back home he passed by the nearby town, some kids threw rocks at him, shouting that Damien was a monster, reminding him that it was his fault that his family was being discriminated against. He ran to the forest crying and there he met William again. William told him he had been engaged to a princess from another country and had to move in her castle, so he wanted to ask Damien to come with him, making him pass for his personal butler and tutor. Hearing that, Damien decided to reveal to him that he was a witch, believing that William would take back the offer if he knew what he truly was. However, William explained he knew about it the whole time, making him understand he valued their friendship more that that. In the end, Damien accepted William’s offer, ecstatic that he had found a friend who truly liked him for who he was.[5]

Childhood memories and badminton

Damien and his new friends at the castle

Damien left to persuade his parents to let him go with William and they finally obliged, although hesitantly, only when he told them his intention was just to go undercover to spy on the king and help them with their revenge. Once in the castle, Damien met and befriended many kids around his age, including princess Monica, Anne, Ivy, and Amir, finding new happiness in his life. Sometimes he would still come back home to maintain the facade with his parents, and every time he did, he could feel the need for vengeance in his family had grown even more stronger. He was also starting to get worried for the twins, Dani and Dorian, who were growing up inside the manor in a bubble of ignorance. Despite that, he could feel they were not suffering the solitude he had once felt because they had each other. Seemingly Monica thought Amir and Damien had a relationship though Damien showed no interest in Amir.

A few years later, the king, Monica's father, caught him while he was playing with magic in his room. Damien was afraid he would punish him for hiding what he was, but the king reassured him, telling him he had been suspecting he was a witch since a long time and that he was not scared of his kind. Also, he knew Damien was a good person, and to show how much he trusted him, the king offered him the role of his personal butler, which Damien obliged.[6]

Damien leaves his family

Damien refuses to take part in his family's revenge and leaves

Not long after, during one of the reunions with his family, his father ordered Damien to help them in kidnapping Prince William. Damien tried to make them change their mind to protect his friend, but once he realized they were determined in going on with the plan, he rebelled and left, giving up his heritage and shouting that he didn't want to have anything to do with his family anymore. While leaving the manor, he gave a last glance at his two siblings, regretfully realizing he was abandoning them in a toxic environment.

Later, when he came back to the castle, he found William lying in his bed, sick. After helping Monica in nursing him, the prince called for his attention and revealed him that the reason behind his arranged marriage with the princess was due to the fact that William's father had broken an agreement with Monica's father when the former tried to burn alive a witch, Damien's mother. Seeing the prince ruefully admitting it was his father's fault if Damien had almost lost his mother, the young witch quickly reassured him, explaining he knew about it the whole time, making him understand he valued their friendship more that what his evil father did, mirroring their last talk in the forest a few years before.[7]

Story[]

Damien leaves to look for Williams

Damien leaves in a quest to look for William

Introduction arc[]

A few years after, William, along with many princes from neighboring countries, disappears from his castle and Damien is sent by the king to go check on Monica, who has been crying in her room ever since.[8] Later that day, the princess manages to flee from the castle to look for her fiancé, and after a few failed attempts by the royal guard to track her, Damien asks the king to be sent on a mission to find her and bring her home, with which the man complies. Before leaving, though, Damien takes William's sword and mentally apologize to the king, revealing his intention to go look for the young prince instead.[9]

Witches Sabbath arc[]

Damien suspects the witches are involved in William's disappearance, so he decides to go to the Witches Sabbath held at the Floating Rock to investigate. On his way there, Damien meets a group of witches talking about the Wytte family, so he joins the conversation to gather some intel. They inform him that his family was being accused of treason and that his younger siblings were still on the run. They debate about how odd the situation was since the Witch Sabbath was being funded by the Wyttes, so they suggest someone framed them to obtain their political power. They continue talking, and when some of them reveal to have spotted his sister just a few minutes prior his arrival and their intention of chasing and catching her, he stops them by turning them all in harmless, small animals.[10]

Damien infiltrates the Witches Sabbath

He arrives at the Floating Rock by broom and there he notices a blaze coming from one of the openings in the walls. He ask a guard about it and the witch reveals his high-ups were rising dragons. Once inside the fortress, Damien slips away to look for the prince, but he is seen by a few guards. Again, he easily gets rid of them by turning them into mice, snakes, or toads.[11]

Damien saves Will

Damien frees William from his cell

He reaches the prison and there he founds William and the other seven lost princes locked in a cell. He easily dissolves the bars and frees them, proceeding to help them disguise as witches. Lastly, he arms William with his sword and prince Amir with a hidden dagger he had brought.

While looking for a way out, Damien and the princes pass by the main hall, where the Witches Sabbath is still being held, and where he sees his family being restrained. He then listens to an old witch, accusing his family to be traitors and to suggest to sacrifice his father, the Wytte's patriarch, to help a soothsayer to see which person will be crowned as the King of Witches. Damien brings out his wand nervously, ready to intervene, but is parents are immediately set free when the soothsayer tells everyone it is a child of Wytte that will be the new King of Witches.[12]

Damien, William and Amir on the ground

The trio after falling off Damien's the broom

Suddenly, chaos erupts at the Witches' Sabbath between those who support Wyttes' revenge plan and those who are against it, and Damien takes it as a chance to escape. Since he only has one broom, he states he'll need to ride one prince at a time. William suggest starting with the younger prince but Damien objects because he would not have any weapons to defend himself once left alone in the forest under the flying fortress. So Damien opts to start with William, who has a sword. They take off, but a moment after Amir jumps on their broom, causing Damien to lose control of it and making the three of them fall against a three.[13]

William is taken away by a dragon

Damien observes helplessly as the green dragon takes away William

Damien shouts at Amir for his foolish stunt, but the man defends himself saying he knew the witch boy only cared about William and wanted to leave the rest of the princes behind. The three start to look for another broom, but Damien loses sight of William and Amir. As he looks for them, he hears a group of fleeing witches talking about the foolishness of Wytte's plan to kill the king to take revenge against non-magical people and Damien blushes, happy to see he isn't the only one wishing to maintain peace. The two princes come into view again with a new broom, which is immediately destroyed by a stray hoax.[14] As they look around for another broom, they see Dani and Dorian flying on a black dragon and Damien supposes they were taught how to dominate a dragon by their parents, since they were rising them. Amazed, William states his intention to ride a dragon too to reach the Floating Rock, but Damien and Amir stop him. While they drag him away, a green dragon escaped from the fortress targets them. Damien quickly creates a shield to stop the dragon's fire breath, but it definitely breaks after the beast hits it with its body.

Damien lashes out

Damien's desperation

William attacks the dragon and ends up on his back as it takes to the sky. Damien quickly tries to reach for William's hand, but he is wounded on his right arm by the dragon's tail and he can't do anything but watching helplessly as the beast takes the prince away.[15]

Damien finds another broom and flies away in search of the dragon who took William. While he passes by the Floating Rock, he sees his parents and aunt discussing which one of their children will become king, and he immediately turns away to not be seen by them.[16] He continues to took for William until sunrise without results. As the flying fortress fall to the ground, he lands on a rock and lets his desperation out for failing to protect William again. He decides to retreat to the king's castle, but before going, he eventually finds and picks up Dorian Wytte's lost backpack.

King of Witches arc[]

At the castle, Damien reports to the king about the events who have taken place at the Witches Sabbath. The king is relieved that Damien didn't see his daughter Monica there because the chaos that erupted that night would have put her in danger, and pleased to hear that many witches showed to be on his side. The king thinks happily about an idea so there will be no need to fight between the two sides, but as Damien walks away, he thinks the man is too naive. He reaches his room and looks with concern at a dangerous parchment he found inside Dorian's bag.[17]

Damien and the guards

Damien dismisses his bodyguards

The king organizes a ball at the castle, open for both witches and non-magical people. Damien dislikes social events, but decides to go to the party anyway, hoping William will somehow show up since the prince loves them. While he gets ready to go, someone knocks at his door. He opens up only to see three guards standing in front of his room. They announce the king has sent them to protect him in the eventuality his parents show up at the party to kidnap him, but Damien dismisses them, visibly annoyed.[18]

At the ball, Damien stands on the sidelines, merely observing people dance. He sees Monica dance with Nico and having fun, and he is somehow irked by it.[19] After a while his patience runs out and goes to the terrace to look for some fresh air. There he meets Dorian chatting with princess Monica.[20]

Damien tackles Dorian

Damien tackles Dorian

Thinking his brother was sent to do something evil by their father, Damien tackles Dorian and shouts to the princess to warn the guards of his plans. Dorian, in turn, accuses his older brother to be the King of the Witches and to have gained the king's trust just to kill him more easily later and usurp the throne. This upsets Damien, who points his wand at his brother and counters angrily that Dorian is trying to blame him to take away the suspects from himself. He also adds that he knew of the terrible curses and spell Dorian was practicing at, since he now owned his backpack.

Monica stops Damien and Dorian

Damien is stopped by Monica

As the fights go on and they argue about their father, Monica intervenes and takes Damien's wand to prevent him from hurting his brother. Then she reveals to Dorian that she lied before about Damien being the King of Witches to protect him and Dani from Pendragon, who had planned to get rid of them if the king could be one of them. She also adds the prophecy must be wrong because she knew Damien as well as Dorian and Dani very well, and there was not chance that the King of Witches could be one of them since they are all trustworthy people. Damien gets off Dorian and excuses to Monica before stating she is just a spoiled brat who doesn't take things seriously. Then he adds with sorrow that it is not right that she is having fun dancing with other guys when his friend William, her fiancé, may be dead. So he takes away his wand from Monica and slowly leaves, stating enigmatically that Dorian will find out what kind of person their father is very soon, since at midnight strikes the Witching Hour.[21]

Pendragon and the guards

Damien is surprised by Pendragon's strategy

As Damien suspected, at midnight a red dragon break through a wall and his father, his aunt and other witches storm inside the castle. Damien runs to the king's side, but the older man reassure him everything is under control. Just as he says that all the guards and Pendragon bring out wooden wands and together they cast a powerful ice spell, which traps the dragon. Damien wonders why the king bothered to teach his soldier magic when he could easily cast the same spell alone, but the older man explains he could never ask him to fight his own family. Also, the king adds he wants to use this as an expedient to show people he doesn't have any prejudice on magic.[22] Since they are not protected by their dragon anymore, Damien's father and aunt are easily caught by the guards, and the king announces they will all be sentenced for treason. Realizing his family's members were all going die, Damien starts to feel sick. He pleads the king to spare them, but his father steps in the conversation and asks Damien to save them and take his place as the King of Witches. Damien has a panic attack and runs out of the castle. He reaches the garden, where he starts to feel dizzy and where he later pukes, thinking that even if didn't want to hear about his family ever again, he couldn't stand them getting hurt either.

Damien makes his choice

Damien accepts his fate

Suddenly, his mother appears behind him and she, like his father, asks him to become the king. He answers he doesn't want to see any more deaths and that he wants lo live in peace, but she remembers Damien that he owes it to her, because it all started because of him. Also, knowing him well, she takes out William's sword to show Damien the prince is still alive and under her custody. So to protect William, as well as all the people he loves, he decides to take his place as the King of the Witches. He enters again the castle followed by his mother, two dragons and several witches, then he quickly starts to cast spells to free his father, his aunt and the red dragon.[23]

King of the Witches Damien

Damien is crowned King of Witches

In a few moments, the king is defeated. Hans Wytte brings out his sword and is about to behead him, but he is stopped by Damien. To save the king's life, he announces to the witches he wants to humiliate the man keeping him as his pet, then he proceeds in turning him into a toad. Damien's mother picks up the fallen crown and casts a spell that turns it black as well as making a black liquid start pouring from it. Then, she crowns her son as the new king.[24]

The Wyttes and their fellow witches start to look around the castle to catch the old king's daughter, Monica. Damien finds Monica first, along with his brother Dorian, Anne, Ivy and prince Amir hiding in a balcony. As he hears other witches approaching, Damien quickly casts a spell to create a wall that conceals the balcony, giving them a chance to escape.[25]

William's rescue arc[]

For three months, Damien continues to pretend to hate non-magical people while searching for some info on William's whereabouts. One morning, Damien finally presses the matter with his mother, affirming he wanted to kill the son of the man who hurt her, but she sees behind his lies and refuses to reveal the location of the prince to him, stating that she wanted to use William to bait the princess out instead.

Damien and Pendragon at the Inn

Damien and Pendragon hide in a inn

Understanding his mother was not going to share the prince's location with him anytime soon, he turns to Pendragon for help.[26] He frees him from his cell and helps him flee to a safe location, definitely defecting his role of king. They reach an inn where a wanted poster of Pendragon is hanging on a wall. He asks Damien why there weren't posters of him as well, but the younger witch explains that his family didn't want the magical community to know their king was against their cause. Pendragon continues questioning why his family didn't want to tell him of William and why he wanted so much to save him, so Damien tells him of his history with the prince.[27] With his ability, eventually Pendragon sees some clue about William's whereabouts and the duo leaves towards Amir's reign, looking for a green dragon.

Damien and Aisha fight dragon

Damien stops Aisha

They reach a desert and there they see Aisha, Amir's sister, fighting against the dragon with a bow. Damien quickly uses an ice spell to freeze an arrow she shot to stop her from hurting the dragon, and just at that moment his siblings and their friends arrive.[28] Dorian immediately attacks his older brother, but Monica and Amir rush to Damien's side. While they are distracted, the green dragon charges at them, but Dani protects them, casting an ice spell who stops its fire breathing and scares it away. So Damien chases the dragon on a broom alongside Monica and Dorian.[29]

Dorian and Monica save Damien

Monica and Dorian catch Damien

While following the dragon, Damien and Dorian start to talk about their parents. Dorian asks his brother why did he leave him and Dani if he knew of their family's plan and Damien is hit again by the guilt. While distracted, Damien is hurt by a falling rock and falls off his broom.[30] Monica and Dorian attempt to catch him, resulting in the three of them falling into a pit filled with white roses and dragon blood. Damien then answers Dorian's prior question saying that they are not so different, as they both put other people in front of their own family. Moreover, Dorian left behind his sister. Not happy with his statement, Dorian rebuts it is only temporary and not comparable with all the years Damien left he and his sister at their parent's mercy, but decides to call it a truce for now.[31]

Monica and Damien on the spiral rock

Monica and Damien climbing the spiralic rock

They follow the trail of blood and find the dragon, now asleep.[32] Monica spots a large spiral rock and suggests that William must be hidden at its peak, so she and Damien start to climb it up. However, the dragon begins to wake up and Dorian his left to fends it off alone. The dragon tries to stop Monica and Damien from destroying the rock path, and the male witch almost falls off, but he is caught off by the princess. Then, the ground under Dorian and the dragon collapses and both disappear inside the hole.[33]

At the top of the spiral, they find a cave in which William rests, cursed by the Wyttes with a sleeping spell that can only be broken with a true love's kiss. Monica leans in to kiss the prince as she is his fiancée but stops because she believes she doesn’t love him enough since she has a crush on Dorian. Damien explains that there are different kinds of love and that he is sure her kiss would work, but he also offer to wake William up himself if she has any doubt.

Damien kisses William

Monica tries to question what Damien meant by it but they are interrupted by the sudden arrival of the Wyttes, who threatens both of them.[34] Damien sends a few spells to fend off the witches, but Hans Wytte avoids them and grabs Monica's arm. The princess, however, menages to tackle him and to shouts at Damien to wake William up. As she says it, the young witch leans in and kisses the prince, who immediately wakes up.[35] Dorian makes a sudden entrance while riding a black dragon, distracting the Wyttes. Damien takes it as a chance to escape. He turns two enemy witches into animals and then takes their brooms, giving one to Monica. The princess, William and Damien start to retreat but Hans chases them.

Damien and Will are hit

Damien and William are targeted by the black dragon

Before they can get too far, though, Hans, Damien and William are knocked off their brooms due to the dragon’s fire breath because Dorian isn’t able to completely control his dragon. They fall down and Monica follows, believing that they’d all been killed.[36] However, Damien jumps back up off the ground to create a shield to stop the following attacks of the dragon. Damien, Monica and William are able to retreat on brooms along with Dorian when the fighting comes to a stop because of the death of Hans Wytte.[37]

As they fly back to Amir's castle, Damien shows himself to be still shaken by his father's death. The black dragon tries to follow them and Damien attacks it, but he is stopped by Dorian, who chases it away. As they land, Dorian is distraught by his father's death, but Damien walks away from the scene. William stops him and asks him why he wouldn't go and talk to his brother, but Damien explains he has no more place in his life anymore and that he actually doesn't feel bothered by his father's death since he was a killer and a threat to William's safety. He also adds he is just glad William is back, but as he says so he starts crying in grief, wondering in his mind if he really is happy.[38]

The group reach the castle's walls and Damien reports to the guards. There they found out Dani, Nico, Mark and Aisha had been sent to find them and kill the green dragon but they were still gone. Dorian tries to leave to search for them, but he is stopped by Monica and by Aisha's sudden arrival. She announces she found the green dragon dead, as he was buried under the boulders when he fell in the hole, and so Damien and his group are so welcomed in the castle as heroes.[39] Later, Dani returns to the castle safe and sound and Damien observes from afar her and Dorian's touching reunion.

King's death arc[]

Back to his human form, Monica's father, reasserts that he doesn't think of witches as enemies since some of them, such as Damien and Pendragon, helped him a lot the last few months, and states that there won't be reprisals against the Wyttes. The king then sends a glance at Damien as he announces that he will ask his mother Angela to make a peace treaty with him.[40]

Damien finds the kind dead

Damien finds the king dead

Damien is later seen taking a bath with William and Amir, and then chatting with his group of childhood friends about William and Monica's impending wedding.[41] That night, though, Angela kills Monica’s parents and captures Dani before leaving on her red dragon. Damien wakes up for the commotion only to find out the king and the queen are already dead.[42] Damien, William and Monica are distraught over their deaths. William tries to go console Monica when she goes to says her goodbyes to her parents, but Damien stops him as it isn't the right time to do so. At that moment the duo hears Dorian having a fight with Amir's mother because she wants him to hide in William's kingdom instead of following Angela and save Dani. Damien tries to calm him, but Dorian grabs him, shouting at him to shut up because he thinks his older brother doesn't care about Dani nor his family. William steps in between them, stopping the fight.[43] A day after, Damien, William, Monica, Dorian and Anne leave the city and met William's parents, who left their kingdom to go fetch them.

Wytte brothers protection squad

Monica and William stand up for Damien and Dorian

The king immediately shows to be not happy to have to bring Damien and Dorian to his castle as he highly dislikes witches, but William steps in their defense. William remembers his father the Wyttes' kids had been under Monica's father protection, but the old man retorts that was what brought him to his death, and that the two witch boys should be burned. Monica, angered by the king's words, argues with him as she puts herself in front of her friends, followed a moment after by William. Both threaten the king to renounce at their royal rights, leaving him without a heir. In the end, the old man announces he will not burn the two witches at the stake for now, but that he may change is mind if they don't behave. [44]

The group is picked up by a carriage-like van and reach William's country by night. At dinner, Monica makes a toast to commemorate her parents and William starts drinking. Damien tries to stop him because when he is drunk "he acts like an octopus," but he does it anyway.[45] Later, Damien drags a barely able to stand, drunk William back to his room. They talk about how sad they are as they both considered the dead king and queen as their own parents, and William offers to cheer Damien up giving him a kiss. Damien pushes him away, making him fall on his bed, and William asks what there was wrong about it since they kissed already once, revealing he knew about how his curse was broken and about Damien's feelings.

Damien's letter

Damien's goodbye letter to William

After that, William definitely falls asleep. Damien brings out a letter of goodbye he wrote for William as he has decided to leave in secret in search of his sister and doesn't want the prince to follow him. On the table, though, he finds the second letter of apology written by Monica, who was planning to leave with Dorian to search for Dani too.[46] However, Dorian and Monica are caught while trying to leave the royal grounds and the former is sentenced to be burned at stake for "kidnapping" the princess. Knowing Damien and Monica would try to help Dorian, the king orders to lock them up and threatens to do the same with William. The next morning Damien is visited by the prince, who apologizes for his father's behavior. Damien, though, has no intention to sit back while his brother dies, so he plots to replace him with someone else at the stake. So he takes the chance to request him for a certain book of advanced magic which holds the key to getting them out of their predicament.[47]

Damien reassures Will

Damien shows William the dummy

William, along with Aisha and Mark, finds the book and brings it to Damien, who asks for the supplies needed for the spell. A few hours later, Damien announces there is only one more thing he needs.[48] William asks him if it is a kid around 11-15 years old, but Damien doesn't understand what he is talking about so he dismisses him saying he just needs them to find a way to bring Dorian out of his cell to replace him. This makes William suppose Damien wants to replace his brother sacrificing himself, so he begs him to not do it. Damien so shows him a dummy he is been sewing all day, reassuring him he'll enchant it to look and act like Dorian to be burned at the stake in his place.[49]

In the end, Damien's plan works, fooling the king, Dani, Nico and the Wyttes into believing Dorian is dead.[50] Damien's eventually freed from his cell, but as he finds out Dorian has disappeared, he starts to occasionally join search party to look for him, as well as looking for a way to save his sister Dani, who has become the cold and dangerous queen of witches the prophecy was talking about.

Dorian's rescue arc[]

Three years later, Damien is seen with William and Monica, pretending to mourn the death of William’s father. During the past three years, he’s been having occasional search parties for Dorian along with Mark and Aisha. At this particular time, Aisha believes she’s found a strong lead for Dorian, so the three of them leave to find him hoping that this time they’ll actually get somewhere.

Carlo manages to find Dorian’s body after going on a solo mission and bringing back his potion bottle necklace. The search party follows Carlo to Dorian and Pendragon reveals how he made Dorian drink a poison to kill him as he foresaw Dorian creating a dangerous future.

Damien sees that Dorian’s body is still intact after three years and realizes that he’s still alive because he drank Monica’s potion. He comes up with a plan to distract the dragon and give Dorian an antidote. Damien creates a living dummy of himself to distract the beast while he himself cures his brother with the potion. He narrowly avoids getting killed by the dragon when it sees him by picking up Dorian and flying away on broomstick. He manages to shield the two of them while being chased, but ends up falling to the ground when the broomstick is set on fire. Dorian luckily wakes up just in time to soothe the dragon.

The group retreats to a nearby village to rest and inform Dorian of the situation. While they stay in the village, Damien and Pendragon journey back to the castle to tell Monica the news.

Damien finds Will to tell him about Dorian. Will addresses Damien about his wedding, asking if it bothers him. Damien replies saying it won’t since they’ll still be friends afterward, but is pinned against the wall by Will who wants to know if Damien really only wants to be friends. Damien, flustered, pushes Will away saying that he loves him a lot and he knows it. Damien then asks if Will really wants this, to which he replies saying he needs to marry Monica, avoiding Damien’s question.

Powers and abilities[]

As the heir of a long line of strong witches, Damien is born as a very powerful witch. Ever since he was a child, he has been shown to have a certain affinity with magic and spells. He was able to turn a friend of his into a toad accidentally, as well as do other simple spells without using a wand.

As he grew up, Damien continued to practice his magic, but he specializes in transfiguration and shielding spells. He is also good with hoaxes, broom flying, as well as other spells and potions.

Shielding Spell[]

He can create a sturdy, green shields, strong enough to block multiple hoaxes, a dragon's fire breath or other powerful attacks. These shields can either have a circular shape to protect from frontal attacks or spherical to defend from multiple attacks from different directions. He demonstrated to be able to create multiple shields at the same time to protect or trap more targets simultaneously. After he cast the spell, he can eventually change the dimensions of the shields.

Until now, only Dani with the help of the Evil Spirit and the green dragon hitting it at full speed, have been able to get through Damien's shield.

Transfiguration Spell[]

Damien uses this spell to turn his enemies in harmless animals, usually small snakes, mice, toads or bats. The strength of the target seems to influence the outcome of the spell, since when he tried it on Dani, she turned into a giant snake instead.

During his younger years, Damien did not know how to control this ability, accidentally transforming one of his friends into an animal, causing the townspeople of that village to freak out. Over time however, he gained much more control of this ability, seeming to be able to do it out of will rather than out of emotion.

Freezing Spell[]

Damien demonstrated to be able to use ice magic, as it's seen when he uses a spell to freeze the last arrow shot by Aisha when she attacked the green dragon. This kind of magic seems hard for one person to control, in fact when Pendragon teaches to a group of royal guards an ice spell to perform all together, he seems surprised when Damien affirms he could cast the same spell alone.

Levitation Spell[]

Damien uses this spell to make objects levitate in the air. He is first seen performing this spell as a kid to make a frog levitate in the air. He also used it to help rebuild Pendragon's and Nico's house.

Expanding and Reducing Spells[]

Damien has shown to be able to perform these spells to increase or decrease the dimensions of Carlo to be able to ride him and then turn him back to his original size.[51]

Puppet Spell[]

This is a complex spell Damien uses to create a soulless moving body with the physical appearance of a living person of choice. To perform this spell, he needs first to gather a set of certain ingredients (one of them being some blood or a part of the body of the person the puppet will reassemble to) and then to sew a dummy to perform the spell on.

Healing Potion[]

Damien has studied Monica's notes and books about healing magic. As a result of this, he demonstrated to be able to replicate Dorian's and Monica's healing potion against small wounds and poisoning.

Broom Riding[]

Damien is able to fly using a broom and he is a pretty decent rider. He was shown several times to be able to easily perform sharp turns or dives while attacking or defending at the same time.

Relationships[]

Main characters[]

  • Dani Wytte: In episode 29, Damien helps Dani escape from witches who wanted to capture her by distracting them while she ran away and arguing that she couldn't be a traitor. Due to her having a twin to look out for her throughout her childhood, Damien sees Dani as having grown up in a protective bubble of ignorance and innocence. When Dani was kidnapped by Angela Wytte, Damien leaves to find her almost immediately, showing that he does care for his sibling despite his jealousy of her childhood.
  • Dorian Wytte: Like Dani throughout his childhood, Damien saw him as sheltered. However, when he finds the dark witch's spells in Dorian's backpack, he believes Dorian is practicing black magic. He also believes Dorian to be manipulative, like their father. This is cleared up later on when Damien says they aren’t too different and they work together to find Will. When they were both imprisoned by Will’s father, Damien worked out an advanced spell to first free Dorian. When Dorian disappears after leaving to find Dani, Damien had frequent search parties with Mark and Aisha to find him. Damien might be a little overprotected of his younger brother. Out of the two twins, Damien seems to be much closer to Dorian rather than Dani.
  • Monica: Damien has been friends with Monica since they were young after meeting her when he started living in the castle. They often play and talk together along with William. Later after meeting Monica for the second time during Damien's quest to save William, they team up. After the time skip, they seem to hold shared feelings that the death of Will’s father was for his own good. Additionally, Monica is the first person Damien goes to after finding Dorian again.

Supporting characters[]

  • Hans and Angela Wytte: Hans and Angela Wytte, Damien's parents, have a strong desire for revenge against non-magical people to the point where Damien sees this as unjustly and runs away from home with prince William. Years later his parents think he must be the "King of the Witches" and try to turn him back to hating non-magical people. Damien pretends to do so but lies about going to kill William and instead goes to save him. Damien believes that there’s no hope left for his parents as he says to Dorian that after everything is through, they should kill their progenitors. However, when Hans is killed, he does feel a bit of grief for his late father.
  • Hilde Wytte: Hilde is Damien’s aunt(father‘s side) and also seeks a desire for revenge towards humans but the revenge does not seem as much as his parents. Damien seems to care about his aunt though he cares more for his parents and siblings.
  • William: Out of all of the characters, Damien seems the closest to William. Damien is protective of William, and puts him above everyone else. Because William was Damien's first true friend, we can see that he displays a loyal front to him. Damien also has feelings for William. This is first implied when he’s sure that if he kisses William he’ll break his curse which, when he tried it, woke William up immediately. After the time skip, when William confronts Damien about his upcoming wedding with Monica, William pins Damien against the wall asking if he wants to be more than friends. Damien’s feelings for William are confirmed when he says he loves him very much. In episode 215, William kisses Damien, confirming Damien's feelings for William are mutual. Then, in episode 222, William and Damien can be seen together and their relationship is confirmed when they walk in the room to say goodbye to Dani and were an hour late because they got "distracted" on the way.
  • Monica's father: Being Monica‘s childhood friend, Damien frequently saw and talked to her father as well. When he found out Damien was a witch, he kept it a secret, even offering Damien a position to further his secrecy of being a witch. Because of this, Damien is quite thankful for Monica’s father and was slightly distraught when he died.

Quotes[]

  • “You know I love you. So much." (to William)
  • “I got away from home because I couldn’t stand our psychopathic murderous father anymore.” (to Dorian)
  • “Don’t worry, your majesty. I’ll take care of it. I promise. I owe you.” (to Monica's father, the King)
  • “We were a close family. Until I ruined it all.”
  • “I don’t like lying to you. Revenge isn’t gonna heal you. I can’t wait until it’s too late.” (to Angela)
  • “Of course you’re not horrible. Just because you love other people? We all love many people in different ways or on different levels. It’s not a big deal.” (to Monica)
  • “Well, I’m not actually dying to kiss Will... while he’s asleep. But I have no doubt that he’ll wake up [from the curse] if I do.”
  • "You really do like to make stuff fly." (to Dorian)

Trivia[]

  • Damien is the only member of his family to have natural light-colored hair and eyes while all others have black hair and eyes.
  • Damien is also the only one of the Wyttes' children who doesn't own a pet.
  • At a certain point, he turns Monica's father into a frog to keep him as his own pet, but only for a short time to save his life. In the end, he turns one of the witches, Jimmy, into a rat and keeps him as a pet.
  • Both Damien and his siblings have names that start with D, while his father and his sister have both names that start with H. It may imply it is a Wytte's tradition to name all the children born in the same family with the same starting letter.
  • He is the first confirmed LGBTQ+ character.
